This section of the Chesher family previously spelt CHESHIRE were associated with the bushrangers, and in particular John Vane, who used to associate at the "Cheshers" (the local watering hole) drinking with other local bushrangers.
All of the children, (Thomas, William, George, John, Ann and Donald) were first cousins to John Vane.
George Chesher (Junior), John McKellar, James Burke, and John Vane faced the Bathurst Criminal Court on 24th September, 1865 charged with Robbery with Arms. Fortunately the case was dismissed.
