George CHESHER was granted one of the first portions of land at Kelso after the crossing of the Blue Mountains. About 1838 George bought a property in the Hobbys Yard area and named it "Teasdale Park". His sons owned more land and kept Inns in the area. (Exerpt from the Blayney Shire Pioneer Register.)
NOTE: This section of the Cheshire family (later spelt Chesher) were associated with the bushrangers, and in particular John Vane (bushranger) who associated at "Cheshers", the local watering hole (the Cheshire's hotel), where they drank with other local bushrangers. All of the Cheshire children, Thomas, William, George (Jnr), John, Ann and Donald were first cousins to John Vane. George Chesher (Jnr), John McKellar, James Burke, and John Vane faced the Bathurst Criminal Court on 24th September, 1865, charged with ROBBERY UNDER ARMS, but the case was dismissed. On the 16th April, 1864, Donald Chesher was charged, found guilty, and sentenced to 5 years hard labour, for his part in receiving stolen banknotes, which were part of the ransom from the Henry Keightley raid at Dunns Plains. Donald was at Bathurst when he was caught with the money as he was buying goods for the "Ben Hall Gang". Donald had a special coded note which listed what he had to buy.
The police had been harassing the Chesher's at every turn in the road, and they were unable to venture out, because of the continued watching by the police or their informers. Name now spelt as Chesher.
Also convicted of horse stealing He sailed from Sydney on the "Marion Watson", arriving in VDL 12 October 1838.
